Gametime - Theater Oberhausen
Gametime is an interactive dance theater production that playfully introduces the audience to the world of hip-hop dance. Exploring the boundaries between illusion and reality, Gametime challenges viewers to uncover the truth behind the digital façade. In the end, everyone must decide for themselves: What is real, and what is staged? Is it just a game, or is reality only beginning now?
Through a combination of dance, music, and interaction, Gametime demonstrates that hip-hop is far more than just a dance style—it is a form of expression, resistance, and identity. This is also reflected in the costume design, which incorporates elements from different eras of hip-hop. Oversized silhouettes are paired with deconstructed functions—such as a hoodie worn as pants—and the use of transparent and shiny materials creates an illusion that reinforces the question of what is real and what is fake.
